My Students

Every morning, we start off the day with greeting each other. The students are ready to see and learn the magic of chemistry. The days I have demonstrations the students eagerly wait and are ready to help. I want my students to be the global citizens and expand their horizon.

I have 33 young energetic 10th graders in each Chemistry class.

I teach both honors and on level. They are very eager to learn and step into the modern world of technology. They want to explore all the new tools and enjoy learning. My school is really diverse. I have student population from low income families, too. Sometimes, their only outing can be to the school and only positive interaction is with their teacher. They have thirst for knowledge and want to do well. They have the right to learn and do well and get all the resources needed to excel. They are so ready to step into a more challenging and competitive world. In order for them to be successful I feel it is my duty to prepare them.

My Project

Students will be using the calculators to calculate the volume of hydrogen produced by zinc and hydrochloric acid. They will be using the PV = nRT gas law to calculate the volume. Stoichiometry will be used to the calculations. It will help the students to use calculators when they are converting units using dimensional analysis and solving for required variable.

The scientific calculator also allows students to express large and small units like avagadro's # 6.023 X 10 ^23 in scientific notation.

Later they will be using the scientific calculators to calculate the pH of the solution. Based on the pH they will analyze if it is acid or a base.
