My students need these tools such as fencing, butterfly kits, seeds and soil analyzer to actualize their plans for creating a healthy, organic, productive garden.
The students in my classroom have more energy and creativity then any group I have ever worked with! Just as most kids these days, they are in love with technology. They are driven by the compassion and concern for the future of our earth. They take an active and role in their world and know that they have the potential to have a great effect on it.
I am striving to find a way to bring the students' creativity and love of the environment together in order to solve real world challenges.
I want them to experience the pride and accomplishment that comes when a plan they came up with from its very conception becomes real. I want them to know the potential of their ideas, no matter how far out of the box they seem.
My Project
Students want healthy foods more than people think! They are concerned about the artificial foods that are so prevalent in today's food choices. They are also aware of the ways that foods are "protected" from harmful challenges like bugs, birds and diseases.
With these supplies, students will be encouraged to plan and construct a healthy, productive garden for the school to enjoy.
Students will use the tablet to refer to their plans and research as unexpected challenges arise. They will use the fencing supplies to build protective sides to the garden plots. They will use the soil tester to know what natural additives we can add to enhance the nutrients. They will use the watering cans and trowels to tend to their work. And, obviously, they will use the seeds and garden kit to grow the plants that will make our garden a success!
