Help me give my students this greenhouse so we can have a bountiful community garden for our food insecure families.

My Project

I love to garden and I started a passion project last year to share my love of gardening with my students. Little did I know that I would garner much interest from all of our students as well as the faculty and this would turn into something much bigger and community focused.

Most of my students come from rural agricultural areas and live in poverty because education is not valued, so last year I started a community garden so my love of gardening could serve a greater purpose.

My intention this year is to expand our garden, by starting it earlier and providing families with starters they can plant and harvest at their home. I am educating my students about the process of gardening through many content areas. We research what to grow for our area, how to grow it/feed it, we build what we need (garden boxes, plant markers, trellises) from recycled materials, and we plan on composting to reduce waste at our school and use the compost to enhance our garden beds.

This greenhouse will help us start our plants earlier so we plant bigger/healthier plants that will survive our cold and windy spring weather. It will allow is to increase the volume of seedling that we can give to food insecure families, while educating them about starting their own produce centered garden. This is an ongoing project that my students are passionate about and driven to succeed, and I want to help them but my resources are limited. Thank you for considering funding this greenhouse, and making a difference in the lives of my students, their communities, and their collective futures.
