Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Earth Day is coming up and I want to teach my kindergarten about gardening at school. We are lucky to have 2 raised garden boxes right outside our classroom available to plant this Spring. Gardening has been proven to support mental health, social emotional learning, and reduces stress.

This project will provide us with the right garden soil to upgrade our current boxes, tools to clean them up, and to learn all about gardening.

We will also use some of the soil to start gardening inside with the plastic planters and then, transfer the plants outside. There are enough planters in this project for students to take a plant or two home, so they can continue learning about plants.

Earth Day is a great opportunity for my young scholars to learn first hand how to garden at school and hopefully this will plant the love to garden at home with their own families. The learn will start with learning how to follow directions, then, how to measure soil and water. They will make observations and keep record of their plant growth. They will also have the opportunity to transplant their own plants outside and take turns watering the plants.

If this project becomes a reality, at the end of the school year, each student will have the opportunity to take a plant home to continue to garden during the summer.
