My Project
The Gardeners include students from 2nd and 4th grade. The items in the grant include gardening tools, kids gardening gloves, a cart to store many of the tools and some fern plants. We are working on planting bulbs and plants in the flowerbeds by the main entrance of our school. The gardeners enjoy working together to accomplish goals-cleaning up outside, planting potatoes, planting bulbs and pruning bushes. They feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride and look forward to our next meeting.
Because our student population is high poverty, many do not have gardens at their homes.
Students are learning about perennial plants, annual plants and where they like to grow. They are anxiously waiting to see the crocus and daffodil bulbs we planted in the fall come up. They love getting their hands in the dirt and time away from screens to enjoy the outdoors.
