Garden to Classroom! Mini Farmers in the Making!

Help me give my students green thumbs in gardening. Garden to classroom. Watch my food grow!

My Project

Our gardening project aims to create a hands-on, sensory-rich learning environment specifically designed for our Special Education students. By incorporating raised garden beds, adaptive tools, and a variety of plants, we will provide students with opportunities to explore nature, develop fine and gross motor skills, and engage in meaningful, calming activities. Gardening encourages responsibility, patience, and teamwork.

Teaching gardening to students with special needs is important because it offers a unique, hands-on learning experience that engages multiple senses and supports diverse learning styles.

Many students with special needs benefit from tactile, visual, and experiential activities, and gardening provides all of these. Digging in the soil, planting seeds, and watching plants grow helps build fine and gross motor skills.

Gardening also fosters essential life skills that can lead to independence. It teaches responsibility, patience, and problem solving as students learn to care for living things over time. These skills can translate to real-world tasks like following directions, managing time, and working with others. For students with special needs this experience can be empowering to them as they watch living things grow.

Your donation will help us give the students a visual understanding of growing food and the importance of farming to table.
