This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Little farmers gardening is a STEM project for fall as each teacher gets an empty planter bed. We began planning our fall vegetables and plants experiences in our teaching garden. Students and classrooms receive an Amazon gift card as they learn to shop online for seeds, soil, and other tools he/she may need. This next set of projects is to help classrooms harvest and plant this fall. Students brainstorm, discuss, decide, and create an action plan to care for and use their new garden space to "think like a gardener".
Students will ask themselves questions like....."What does a gardener do"?
"What does a gardener need to be successful"? "How do gardeners decide what to plant"? "What do gardeners do after something is planted"? "How long does a gardener wait before their crops are ready to harvest"? This STEM project is about students having an active role in our new school garden and teachers supporting student learning through an inquiry model of instruction.
