My Students

As a special education teacher, I am always looking for ways to engage my students. They are just like all fifth graders and sixth graders— curious and fun-loving. If I can catch their attention, being interesting material or an intriguing delivery, they learn!

Taking them outside to write or read is one way to coax the reluctant student into putting pen to paper or actually reading the words in their book.

Many of our students live in apartment complexes and do not get the opportunity to work in a garden or sit outside in a peaceful place.

My Project

Outdoor lessons is a perfect setting for learning. There is nothing like the outside world, to inspire questions and enrich the written world. This grant would help create an outdoor classroom with a bench to go in our school garden. We have some places to relax there and this would help even more to make the students comfortable.

You would be contributing to an effort to get the students outdoors - not just my students but the other classes as well.

Sometimes kids just need to be outside. The past two years have been hard for all students - the uncertainty, stress and unknown — has really affected all. Learning while relaxing will go a long way!
