This year, our students will be participating in place-based learning at a community garden near our school. We will be incorporating not only science, but also math and writing into our days at the garden.
Student learning can only be improved when given opportunities to show their knowledge in real-life, hands-on scenarios.
Planting food that will be distributed to local families, organizing and cleaning up workspaces, analyzing changes, and planning community garden projects will be some of the activities students will engage in.
The t-shirts and canvas bags will be given to students as tools for maintaining organization of tools and a sense of class community. Students will dye the t-shirts and bags using natural dyes from plants they will harvest. Gardening gloves, the collapsible wagon, storage totes, pots, and soil will be some of the tools necessary for our class to engage in various garden projects.
