My students need these board games and blocks to create a fun learning environment to become experts with math facts. Lewo stacking blocks/games will be used in many Math activities throughout the school year!

My Students
I teach third grade math in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunches.
My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning.
Our classroom is a space where we enjoy coming to learn. My students love to learn in non-traditional ways, through technology, room transformations, integrating arts into our lessons, and project-based learning.
My students have huge hearts and are extremely curious about their learning. They have creative, compassionate, and amazing attitudes. They are truly wonderful children. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I could not ask for a better environment for these students. We are truly a community!
My Project
Research has proven that the use of hands-on manipulatives can increase students' attentiveness. We will use these Lewo blocks in a variety of lessons in our Mathematics class. I have created colored question task cards to correspond with the colored blocks for units such as elapsed time, geometry attributes, making change, word problems, and addition/subtraction. Students will roll a dice to decide the color of task card to complete, then answer the colored task card correctly, finally they will take a turn to remove the colored block without knocking down the tower.
Students will be more engaged because they have a game to complete while they are learning.
The board games in this project are additions to the board games we currently have in our classroom. These board games increase student engagement to master their Math facts throughout the school year. During each school week, my students will have a math block to practice and master their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. The groups of students will have the opportunity to choose which game they would like to play.
I chose the board games in this project because they have minimal game pieces for easy set-up and clean-up (less wasted class time). The different board games; Chutes and Ladders, Connect 4, Candy Land, etc. benefit my students because they have to answer a math fact card correctly to receive their turn for the game. The board games allow students to work in small groups or partners and learn to positively communicate with each other. I am excited to give my students engaging and fun options to learn their Math facts rather than just timed activities.
