Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Middle school can be challenging, especially for the 6th-grade students transitioning from elementary school. My goal is to create a room that is welcoming where students can socialize and interact with friends. This will give the students a space to "escape" on those harder days.
The students need to have a space where they can feel safe and comfortable and be able to have fun during their busy school day.
My school has struggled to maintain options for students to find safe spaces during their unstructured times of the day. Clubs, organizations, and intramural sports activities have proven to promote a positive school culture, a sense of belonging, and school pride. Educational movements have emerged to harness students' interests in gaming that include "gamifying" lessons as well as creating "Gaming Clubs." The goal of this project is to start a Game room with students in grades 6-8 so that they can have a dedicated place and space to play all types of games. The Game Room will include a game table, projector, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox to create this space for students. The Game room will act as a positive reward for students who can participate through positive and prosocial behaviors.
