Gamifying Math and Computer Science Learning With Osmo

Help me give my students interactive learning games that engage and motivate through choice and play.

My Project

Game-based learning is giving students: choice in how they learn, quick feedback, opportunities to build relationships, and opportunities to celebrate growth. A 2018 study by the Vanderbilt University showed that games that were aligned to curricula significantly increased studentsʻ engagement, motivation, and critical thinking skills (Clark, Tanner-Smith, Hostetler, Fradkin, and Polikov, 2018).

With the Osmo learning game kits, I can further engage my English language learners in math and computer science all while helping to build their literacy.

One way I would use the Osmo "Pizza Company" game is during a small-group session: while I intervene with a small group, another group can be working together on fractions and giving out the right amount of change on their own. Yet another group can be working on computer science with "Coding Awbie" at the same time.
