My Project
I work in a Title 1 school in Antioch, CA and every day these kids work hard just to make it to school. Learning often comes second to survival in my community of kids, but they prove to me how much they want to be in class with how hard they work while they're with me. I want to give them the best learning opportunities to meet them where they are and grow them to their potential. These students impress me every day, always put their best foot forward, and prove that learning comes with a great mindset.
I have the best 4th graders in the world and I want them to have the best resources available to grow their learning, in a developmentally appropriate way.
Using these resources, I will gamify my lessons to make learning more approachable for my low students, and more meaningful for my high students. Math is a struggle, but with gamified lessons, students can work hard and get instant gratification while doing so. This means they can grow into hard working individuals because they are cognitively rewarded every time they work hard on something they struggle with.
With playing cards and dice, students will participate in tried and true Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks activities. These are math activities that build students' number sense and skills with dice and playing card activities. With the board games, students can solve problems to take their turn and build their collaborative skills while they learn content standards.
