Learning does not stop at 3:00! My students eagerly take classroom books home each night to read to parents and siblings. They also take home classroom math games to play with their families. Parent involvement is the key to successful education.
My students come from all walks of life.
In the tough economical times we face many of my students' parents are struggling to meet the needs of their families. Many parents are willing to work on skills at home if supplied with materials that are easy to find and use. My students need daily support in reading and math in order to meet grade level learning targets. My goal is to create a three way partnership between myself, my students, and parents and to provide families with materials to help at home each night.
My Project
I am requesting durable, see through, plastic folders with enclosed pouches for materials to be sent home each night. Parents will be able to find homework easily and return it without losing or damaging any materials. My students take classroom books home every night to practice reading skills. They also take home math games with small pieces such as dice, clocks, counting chips, and spinners. When materials are lost or damaged others cannot benefit from them and they are often expensive to replace. These convenient folders will make it easy for parents to participate in homework routines with their children each night and return materials for further classroom use.
When parents take an interest in learning, children notice and benefit.
Providing parents with resources is the easiest way to get them involved. Durable homework folders will provide my students a chance to succeed by giving them access to learning materials twenty-four hours a day.
