My Project

My library classes are full of students who have bright futures! They have such unique personalities that I love and enjoy getting to know better through each interaction. Although they do have diverse interests, many enjoy game-based learning. To be a successful adult, it is crucial to learn how to collaborate with others. This takes time and begins through peer interactions when people are younger.

Receiving board games and hands-on manipulatives provides shared experiences that can improve connections with others, while also encouraging critical thinking skills.

There is quite a bit of social and emotional learning involved, although students are not necessarily as aware of that (which can sometimes make activities more fun for them). These items promote critical thinking, which means students have the opportunity to fail- and then learn from that in order to succeed. They have the opportunity to disagree with others- and work through that in a healthy way. These board games and learning manipulatives will be used primarily in the library, which I feel promotes an inclusive, encouraging environment for all to feel comfortable, even if they do not succeed at something the first time. I truly feel that this project has the ability to improve student learning and social/emotional skills.
