This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach second grade in a low socioeconomic area in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama. My students come to me daily, ready to learn and eager to please their teacher by doing their best work. I provide many resources myself for my classroom due to low funding. About 98% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My students would greatly benefit from these additional resources.
My students come to school hungry and lacking many things they need to be successful.
When they leave my school, they usually do not eat until the next day when they come back.
My Project
My students love to play games and what better way than to have fun while learning by playing math games?! I would love to have more math games available to them in my classroom. I have found several fun math games that will help my students strengthen their math skills and number sense. Some of the games correspond with math units they will be learning and some of the games will help build number sense. I have found that some of my students still need help with building their number sense, having a fun and engaging way can help them. These are games to help them learn while having fun.
