My students need to practice math skills using the Launch & Match Game and Math Folder Game Library. They need practice with rhyming using Launch & Learn Rhyming Sounds.
Kindergarten is meant to be filled with fun and games with sprinkles of learning! My students love to learn, but they enjoy playing more. So if I can make learning as fun as possible, my goal of every student reading and understanding number sense by the end of the school year will be accomplished!
I have a very diverse group of 25 kindergartners in my classroom this year.
Several of my students are second language learners, and struggle with vocabulary and background knowledge. Several of my students have never been to school or to a setting outside of their home ever, so this is their first school experience. All of my students have one thing in common, and that is they truly love learning and thrive on new experiences. Their attendance is amazing which makes me a very proud teacher! The school population of about 600 students is very diverse, but is made up of high poverty families. Our students tend to be highly mobile, so I try to make the most of the time I have with each of them. We also have a large population of ESL families throughout our school. Overall, our school is a very loving and warm place to be. Our families love being there and we see several parents in the building throughout the day!
My Project
My students vary in math and reading abilities and therefore I teach using centers often. I am requesting games for math and reading to reinforce skills that my students have been struggling in. Most of these games are self checking making them perfect for independent practice as I work with a small group. We very rarely have another adult in the classroom, so this is an important factor when looking at materials. My goal is to use these games, which are very engaging, to review and practice the skills. The math folder games have activities ranging from number recognition to subtraction making them perfect for the varying needs in my classroom. Rhyming is a skill that several of my students are needing practice with, yet they are tried of doing since we have been learning it since the beginning of the year. The game that I requested would make it fun to practice again and is different every time you play. These games would make centers more like game time!

Learning is more fun when games are involved which makes my students want to come to school. Attendance can be challenging at times, so if we can make learning super fun, they won't want to miss out!
