My Students

How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? A review of student grades and school-wide data indicate that students with disabilities are the lowest performing sub-group at our elementary school.

I serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class is performing below grade level. They need differentiated instruction that targets foundational skills and is not your typical worksheet. We are a Title I, low income school where we are working hard to close achievement gaps, but we need more learning materials to make this happen!

My Project

Games provide hands-on activities & the opportunity to experiment with math, allowing fun learning without technology.

I love using technology but students need additional resources to give them a break from screens.

These games can be played independently, with a partner or done with a group. This will allow students to review content and discuss them together in each of my math groups. I will use the Tower of Math games, Pop to Win! games, and Building Bricks Problem Solving Kits to reinforce understanding of key math concepts while allowing the students to have fun. Students need hands on opportunities for motivation and learning if they are to retain key knowledge.

I teach students with various learning disabilities. During this time, I work with small groups to enrich and support their specific needs. These students like to learn and please. I want to give them a variety of materials to cultivate an understanding and hopefully a love of math.
