My students need fun games that teach them math and literacy skills while also providing real-world practice of important social skills (taking turns, sharing, winning and losing gracefully).
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Formed in the summer of 2017, Pre-K at our school serves 80 four and five-year-olds in the Saint Paul area. Our program was formed thanks to a generous grant from our governor. Our school strives to put students first. Students develop self confidence through their accomplishment and a sense of empowerment to pursue their dreams.
Our school succeeds in closing the achievement gap in the multicultural community through the delivery of rigorous curriculum and an individualized learning plan for each student.
My Project
Pre-K students are working hard to learn to be good citizens and good friends. Every day we practice sharing and taking turns, using kind words, and coping when things don't go our way. We learn all of this while also learning about counting, letters, colors, and shapes!
These board games are a great way for my students to learn all these important skills in a practical yet fun setting.
I have done a lot of research (including reading reviews and playing some of the games myself) and I know my students will have a blast helping Sneaky Squirrel to collect the colorful acorns, Shelby to find all her bones, and Frida to collect all the letters for her Fiesta! I hope these games will provide and opportunity for parents and other volunteers to come into our classroom to play these fun and educational games with our students!
