My Students
“Action is the fundamental key to success.” – Pablo Picasso. This quote relates to my project as we know that interactive tasks and hands-on activities help to keep students engaged.
I am a speech language pathologist that work in Title I schools where many or all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.
They have limited exposure to academic vocabulary and learning opportunities. Most of my students are classified as speech and language impaired and receive special education services.
My Project
Board games provide multiple opportunities to target goals in an exciting and motivating way. They help students develop important speech and language skills in a natural environment.
Board games take the pressure and demand off students when learning communication skills.
When students are taking part in a board game, they are expanding their vocabulary, building problem-solving skills, learning about concepts (e.g. up, down, top, bottom), learning cause and effect as well as getting an understanding of sequencing, following multi-step directions, and so much more.
Board games naturally encourages social language skills such as turn taking, sharing, joint attention, and eye contact.
