My Students

I teach freshman English in a high school design and technology academy in an urban city. We promote 21st century learning in a self-directed and flexible environment using innovative tools that will develop, inspire, and propel students into post-secondary success. My students are as diverse as our city, from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and income levels.

What my students all have in common is their energy, creativity, and dedication to learning.

My students are funny, charming, and innovative; I feel fortunate to be their teacher. However, we are a public school, and therefore, even though they are eager to learn new technologies, many do not have the resources at home.

My Project

Thanks to a previous DonorsChoose gift, we have many new books for our classroom library. I would like to set up a reading and game center using these organizational cubes and bins where students may check out learning tools.

Students learn best when they are having fun, and I would like to use these design thinking games to spark creativity and innovation.

Allowing students to play while they learn creates an inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe to be themselves, laugh and think outside the box. Through these games, they can practice the pillars of our academy: collaboration, self-direction, communication and inquiry.
