Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a Title I school in Orlando, Florida. Some students have been relocated from Puerto Rico due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria this past year. This is my sixth year at my school. My students are such eager learners. My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and for most of them English is not spoken at home. These students need as much exposure to English and new vocabulary as possible. Due to their disadvantaged backgrounds my students are in need of materials that can help them become better scholars.
My Project
I want my students to be excited to come to school and want to learn. In my project I have included books, tablets and games for ELA and math. Most of my students first language is not English and they are in need of more opportunity to be exposed to rich vocabulary. What better way then with games and tablets.
There are so many apps for reading and math that are fun and colorful and appeal greatly to young learners.
It will assist in retention of math and reading topics.
The games and I Can Read! Readers will help make learning fun and will most definitely appeal to the students in my first grade class.
