Gamers Gotta Game

My Project

My students are hard working artists who love to have fun playing video games. The video game club in my school began as a lunchtime club and, over time, it became so popular that it had to be moved to a classroom after school. In the beginning we were able to obtain a few Nintendo Switch consoles and games like Super Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., and Super Mario Odyssey. We, at one point, had over thirty students attending regularly. However, when we were closed during the pandemic, many of our vendors and suppliers stopped carrying video games so we have been unable to provide the students with new games. This has made some students feel like the club isn't as much fun.

For the last 6 years the video game club has been able to provide a safe space for students to hang out after school regardless of whether or not they have access to consoles at home.

We have also been able to build community and camaraderie between students across grades and across majors.

The ability to give the kids more game options as well as more multiplayer games, will continue the work of keeping the students engaged in a fun, safe activity, and a stress reliever; all while keeping them motivated to attend regularly.
