My Students

Human Geography teaches the why and where, what better way to do that than through "play". A challenge for my students is their background knowledge of geography around the world. I don't want them to memorize just to forget after a quiz but to learn a remember forever.

My students are the best around.

They are hard working kids who come to school on a daily basis with all their own questions, issues, excitements, and problems. The best part is as sharks we only move in one direction - we are always moving forward. These kids come to school on a daily basis and constantly talk about how they love learning in Human Geography. These kids amaze me with how much they know and want to know.

My Project

My students need to improve geography skills, games like Carmen Sandiego and Flag Frenzy will help with that. These games will be used as supplements in each unit. The games will help students gain hands-on knowledge of geographic locations. The students will track Carmen San Diego around the world to different locations and in turn give them a geographic understanding of spatial distribution of places across the world. I will use these games in a work station where students will play variations of the game based upon what region of the world they need to focus on in the unit of study. Using these games periodically in class will allow the students to not only learn where they are but apply different concepts from the game to have a more worthwhile experience when it comes to geography.

These games will allow information that is sometimes mundane to become exciting.

They will be learning through play. Sometimes at the high school level we forget that they are still kids. This project will help bring the material alive in my classroom and offer experiences to my students to hopefully remember these experiences long after they are done with the class.
