Game Time! Building Our Collection of Classic Classroom Games

Help me give my students a collection of classic board and card games to provide fun, screen-free opportunities for my students, perfect for rainy days, after testing, and as a reward for their hard work.

My Project

As a second-year teacher, I’ve spent my time and energy building the essentials for my classroom. This year, I’ve noticed a big need for something that doesn’t often make the supply list: classic games! My students thrive when they have structured, screen-free ways to connect, relax, and play together—especially after long testing days, during rainy indoor recess, or as a reward for their hard work.

Unfortunately, our classroom doesn't currently have any of the go-to games like Uno, Jenga, Monopoly, Checkers, Connect 4, Sorry!, Trouble, Hangman, or Mancala, games that not only provide fun but also teach important skills like critical thinking, patience, turn-taking, and sportsmanship.

With your help, I want to create a classroom game shelf that students can look forward to. Whether it's a friendly round of Connect 4 on a stormy day or a celebratory game of Uno after finishing state tests, these games will provide a well-earned mental break and foster a sense of community and joy in our classroom.

These are not just games, they are tools that encourage cooperation, strategic thinking, and stress relief. Having a stocked game shelf will allow me to offer positive incentives and peaceful ways to wind down during our busiest and most stressful seasons.

To help keep everything neat and classroom-ready, I’m also requesting mesh zipper pouch bags. These will make it easy to store small game pieces, keep cards from getting lost, and allow students to access and return games independently and responsibly. A little organization goes a long way in keeping our classroom running smoothly!
