My Project

My students have a few plastic tennis rackets and they love hitting the tennis ball back and forth to each other. I think they would have so much fun using a net and it would solve a lot of disagreements about if the ball bounced before or after the crack in the ground they use for a net.

This whole idea started when I had a couple of students who would just wander around at recess, not really playing with anyone or anything.

They didn't want to play football, basketball, or kickball. They also didn't like playing on the playground equipment. We started talking about what they did like and I found out they both liked tennis. We got a few plastic rackets and tennis balls and before I knew it, a lot of students were playing! The best thing about this whole experience is those two students who were all alone, became the "coaches" and showed the students how to hit the tennis balls. This really improved their self-esteem and it made my teacher heart so happy that they were smiling and running around with their peers, instead of walking around by themselves.

They would love a net and extra rackets and paddles. Our plastic ones are starting to break and not work quite so well. My class and I thank you so much for your consideration!
