This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second grade teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district. I have a class of wonderful second graders who are English language learners, special education students, and general education students who come from various ethnic backgrounds.
Despite the many challenges my students face, my students come to school eager to learn and strive to do better.
The recent pandemic has really put a major obstacle in front of our students. School closures have separated our students from us teachers, counselors and other staff members who support them during important developmental transitions and difficult times.
Despite these circumstances, my students are doing their best to learn from home but lack basic school supplies and food that they would have received during a normal school day.
The closures of schools across the country, will likely precipitate a “widening gap” between low- and high-income students. School closures prompted by the Coronavirus pandemic have sent families scrambling for solutions—balancing their work schedules with childcare and their children's needs for social stimulation and learning. As a result, many of my students are in need at this time. Please help me give my students everything they need.
My Project
My students have spent a lot of time on the computer learning virtually. Now that we are back in person, they need to desperately work on their social skills. This project is for games to be played in class, during free time, and/or during small groups.
With these games, students will work on their social skills, logistic, visual and problem solving skills.
Games like these are two or more players and great to promote our goal, however I need a good handful of games to successfully provide opportunities for all of my students. We will appreciate these games for many years in our class!
