I teach 3rd and 4th grade Special Education in Norfolk, VA.
My students live in an urban area and typically come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
My students work hard to overcome obstacles everyday, but they push through and always persevere. I am so proud of their hard work and the progress they make.
My Project
I host a recess group with my students multiple times a week. During this group time I often work with my students on social skills and coping skills. Many of my students have disabilities that affect their coping skills as well as their social interactions.
Over the years I have watched my students use games as a way to interact, make decisions, create relationships with peers, and deal with things not going their way.
These board games would help give my students the tools they need to work through their emotional difficulties as well as help create social awareness.
I have also included a bookshelf in my project. Right now I have limited space and would love to create a gaming center for my students. This bookshelf would help easily store the games while making them quickly accessible to my students.
