My Students

Our student population is extremely diverse. Over 40 languages and dialects are spoken in the homes of our students. Many are the first generation in their families born in the United States. As a group, they are excited to learn and ripe for new adventures in learning. They are inquisitive, innovative, and crave complexity on a constant basis. They need curriculum and literature that ignites a fire in them. At 10 years old you start to wonder about the world and your place in it.

I want to inspire them to see the deep connections between the world and themselves.

Encouraging collaboration and communication is imperative to their success. Fostering their love of reading with truly engaging text and topics relevant to their lives by giving them the power to share their thinking with peers can ensure this. Providing engaging math resources that help them apply problem-solving strategies in authentic ways will also lead to their success. I want to grab these young spirits and show them that knowing about their world can make them powerful. I believe that by providing the supplies to make them successful, we help them become agents of positive change in their own community.

My Project

Because of the diverse nature of our class and our school community, teaching ways to go about facing real-world trials and financial challenges is crucial. Through exploring economics, math, and problem-solving in groups, online, and independently, students will be able to identify and help promote sound financial decision making in the future. My students will also be able to play games that they crave while at home.

The games that this project would bring to our children learning at home will encourage a culture of good sportsmanship, collaboration, and learning through play.

The games and activities that we could get and implement from Teachers Pay Teachers such as "Division Bump," "Measurement Games" and "Math Project-Based Learning" will allow for deeper student understanding and differentiate math instruction for all levels of learners. In addition, with these teacher-tested resources I will be able to give them activities where the children can continue to learn at home while playing games with families. We can connect financial literacy, project-based learning, and promote valuable math skills with all the engaging resources available from the teacher authors. I am banking on their bright future. Will you?
