This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My beginning English Language Learners love to get their game on. They don't realize they're learning when they play games together. Instead of drill and kill spelling and vocabulary practice, a collection of word games would motivate them to overcome their shyness about using English.
These 7th and 8th grade middle school students live in a high poverty area of Northern California.
They are from all over the world: El Salvador, Vietnam, Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Philippines. Having been in the U.S. for only a short time, they need a lot of practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing English. They're quite shy, and games are a perfect way to bring fun to a process that can be quite intimidating.
My Project
Have you ever tried to speak a foreign language? It's not easy and can feel embarrassing when you make mistakes. This collection of engaging games will help these beginning/early intermediate English Language Learners to get more confident in their language skills while having a lot of fun doing it.
These games keep my students motivated and engaged in learning.
While they play these games in small groups, I can work with small groups of students who need to work on skills specific to their language proficiency level. Please help us!
