Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a neighborhood where the poverty rate is very high. They deserve the best, even though the odds are stacked against them most days. They cannot control their home life environment but I can try my hardest to control their learning and entertainment environment.
With that being said, the cold weather will be here before we know it in Indiana and unfortunately, indoor recess happens more often than not.
My classroom has zero board and card games for my students to play with during indoor recess. I told my students that I was going to create a DonorsChoose.org project to help fund some indoor activities for them and they immediately started making out their game lists. I hope to purchase 10 or so games/card decks for their indoor recess activities.

My Project
My students have many days when it is not permitted to go outside for recess due to our crazy weather in Indiana. Currently there is not much to do inside, except for drawing and computer time.
My students want hands-on games that are fun but also use strategy skills and brain strengthening techniques to succeed.
Team-building and community in my room is so important and vital as well. Being able to work with others while game playing, helps integrate this core value.
We would all truly appreciate any help that you can give us. My twenty-eight 5th graders will definitely thank you!
