FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Alvy's classroom raised $355

My Students
With 20 students in all, our class is an active group so my program is based on learning centers, we have a language arts time block, a math time block, art time, and science and social studies. We work together, stressing the importance of community and sharing as well as working quietly alone.
I am a teacher of a full day Kindergarten classroom.
I have 8 students that started the year at 4 years old. The children come from all areas of the city, some live in the neighborhood and others drive from other parts of town. This creates a very diverse group...some of the children speak Spanish in their homes, others speak Russian. They are a tight group that thrives from learning about one another and sharing different traditions and cultures is a major part of our class. The school is small and also we are short of receiving certain federally funded programs by an inch or two. And because of our size, we also lack the backing that public schools in our city are afforded. We therefore try our best to attain certain materials through grants and parent donations, but many of our families simply can't always afford to help and again, our size hinders what percentage of families that can give.
My Project
The students are so young that they need to learn much of what we go over in our class through visuals and hands on materials. The puzzles and games let the children learn in a way that is fun and exciting for them. In addition to this being their first experience in an academic environment, a few of the children have trouble focusing and listening. Because I am spread across the board with twenty small children, having them practice math and language skills in a positive and group oriented game is always a winner.

Teachers want their students to love school, parents do as well.
When the kids come to school, we want them to be excited and challenged by what they are learning. We have come to learn that the vast majority of children are visual learners so I know that these materials will benefit the children that enter my classroom for years down the road. The kids will benefit next year when the focus is directed at reading and writing. They will enter first grade with the fundamentals they need.
