I am a teacher of a full day Kindergarten classroom. I have 8 students that started the year at 4 years old. The children come from all areas of the city, some live in the neighborhood and others drive from other parts of town. This creates a very diverse group...some of the children speak Spanish in their homes, others speak Russian. They are a tight group that thrives from learning about one another and sharing different traditions and cultures is a major part of our class. The school is small and also we are short of receiving certain federally funded programs by an inch or two. And because of our size, we also lack the backing that public schools in our city are afforded. We therefore try our best to attain certain materials through grants and parent donations, but many of our families simply can't always afford to help and again, our size hinders what percentage of families that can give.
