There is finally an established learning groove occurring in the building. Teachers have been dutifully implementing the Science of Reading in their classrooms, and students are making goals with reading acquisition. We are on track for every student to make gains, no matter how big or small, and are thinking ahead of ways to celebrate their achievement.
Plans are underway for a Game Day event to reward student achievement in the Spring.
The last time I checked, I thought my students were interested in Roblox or Fortnite. Well, it looks like many of them have progressed to virtual reality and have even dubbed themselves gamers. After researching the Meta Quest 2, there are free options for children, including rhythm, learning, and appropriate-aged games. So while I would love for this to be more of a fun resource as a reward for their hard work, it supports learning and we all know that learning is fun too!
I hope to begin creating projects that will contribute to a successful game day for students in our building. This could also be used for indoor recess, birthday parties in the classroom, and additional incentive parties throughout the school year. There is also the fitness aspect, where students can get moving. They even get to experience simulated rollercoasters at amusement parks! While that would make me a bit queasy, it's definitely what they enjoy most!
