Game-Changing Gifts: Nintendo Switch Games for Our Students

Help me give my students a Social-emotional learning (SEL)tool with Nintendo Switch games. They encourage teamwork, cooperation, and communication. Cooperative games require players to understand and respond to the needs of others.

My Project

The selected Nintendo Switch games will benefit the social-emotional learning (SEL) in middle school students with enhanced social interaction with multiplayer games. Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. encourages teamwork, cooperation, and communication. Students will experience better emotional regulation as our class provides a safe space to practice managing emotions, such as frustration, excitement, and disappointment. Cooperative games like Super Mario Party require players to understand and respond to the needs of others. Students will also experience strengthened problem-solving and decision-making skills as many games require players to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions. In addition, games like Sports and Just Dance encourage physical activity while playing together in person. These skills can transfer to real-world situations, helping students navigate social and emotional challenges. With moderation and guidance, educators such as myself, can monitor gameplay and provide guidance to help students process their experiences. In essence, when used thoughtfully, Nintendo Switch games can be a valuable tool for fostering SEL in middle school students.
