Hands on learners, full of energy, movers, eager to try new things!
Don't hold us back- We are on our way to independent living!
The students in our program learn best through life experiences in a wide variety of environments. They learn through watching and trying versus reading and writing. They are learners who need to build their confidence in the abilities to succeed in areas that might be challenging for them. They are future adults, community members, employees, roommates, family members, friends.
My Project
Students with cognitive impairments learn best through hands-on real world experiences. Camping in Michigan, a favorite past time in our community, is a great way for us to build on these independent living skills!
These students are setting goals and reaching them!
Reading recipes, cooking, food safety, water safety, social skills, managing leisure time, hygiene and self-care, making friends, learning about our community....these are just some of the goals that our students are working on at camp.
Students will take an active role in their own learning by making choices as to what activities they would like to try. They will help plan for our trip, set up and tear down, cook. The students and staff are one team; everyone takes on a leadership role in their areas of strength. We come together for this success!
