Gaining Inspiration Through Graphic Novels

Help me give my students some graphic novels that are a great way to make reading fun and engaging. Books can be scary for some readers because there are "too many words". This selection will ease that anxiety.

My Project

The specific items that I have selected are a group of graphic novels that have been selected based off of other teachers' and librarians' suggestions. I wanted to focus on creating a library that will be engaging and exciting for the students in my classroom. As a first time teacher I inherited a lot of books that have been left by previous teachers. I want to start a collection for my classroom. The complexity that reading brings also brings challenges in the classroom and by offering more choices for the students it can ease some of the difficulties of reading.

Graphic novels can allow students to become inspired, fall in love with art, storytelling, and reading.

My goal is to offer my students a wider variety of books and have more desire to read fun and engaging stories told by various authors. I feel like my students are special because this is my first class and I have been blessed by an amazing group of funny, unique, and wonderful small humans. Some are excellent story tellers, illustrators, and writers. They are always eager to tell stories about their experiences and how they relate to what they are learning. I want to continue to push them to becoming authors and illustrators that one day will have their graphic novels in classrooms around the world!
