My students need Daily Language Practice Journals to work in their Grammar skills. My students need to become better writers and the only way to do that is to practice grammar daily.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from low-income families that are of Hispanic and African-American descent. Most of the students speak two languages and struggle with the transitions between the languages. Some students can not afford basic school supplies, get a good night sleep, concentrate on their educational success due to home issues that some adults never have to think about. It is my job to provide a safe and effective environment for a successful academic future. I focus on each of my students' needs through small group and one on one work. It is my goal to keep students engaged and focused while in small groups. I have to be very creative with this due to our schools limited funding for extra materials. These materials would help my students stay focused and productive during their center time.
My Project
Grammar is one of the most important tools in becoming a great writer. Everything we put on paper starts with words that need grammatical emphasis to make a story or explanation stick. My students need to learn and practice these skills daily. These journals will help them use and practice the skills through a variety of techniques and stories so they can bring it back to their Writer’s Workshop. My students work very hard and would be able to follow a sequential pattern of a real book with their own journals. It would be their personal reference to their world of words and phrases!
