Gaining Confidence in Our Phonics Skills

My Project

My students never cease to impress me. They have embraced learning the alphabet letter sounds and have begun to discover how blending those sounds together can form words that they can read or write when they separate those sounds. While some students are at the level to practice their letter manipulation through writing, others require extra support in their sound manipulation skills. I hope to help both ends of the learning spectrum with the materials I have chosen for this project.

Getting a head start to blending and segmenting sounds in Kindergarten leads to greater success and confidence when learning how to read and beginning to write words and sentences in First Grade.

To give my students the enriching education they deserve, we need more phonics activities that students feel is a fun, rather than burdensome task. I plan to use the Touch & Read Write & Wipe cards during teacher centers, so that I can practice sounding and spelling out words with students who need more support in hearing all the sounds in a word. I would like to use the Fill-In-The-Blank Magnetic Activity Tins during independent centers, which are important because centers not only give time for the teachers to gather small groups of students to work on a targeted skill, but also give the children an opportunity to grow their own skills to stay on task and practice self-motivation. I especially love that there are three tins at different levels for the students, reaching different learning levels. Thank you for your time, and I hope you are able to help our little learners!
