Help me give my students fifteen Lenovo Miix 320-10ICR tablets so they have the opportunity to research, use educational apps for reading and writing, and access Google classroom to create, collaborate and converse with one another.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 13-14 years old; this in itself illustrates their struggle. On top of being confused about who they are, what they want, and/or how to stay under the radar, without being completely ignored, my students are faced with many adverse situations on a daily basis. Despite all of this, my students come to school everyday to learn and do so with a positive and upbeat attitude. My students crave an environment where they’re free to explore and be imaginative, but also one that challenges them to soar to great heights. Unfortunately, resources are limited and funds are restricted. In a world filled with technology and innovation, my students need to be able to learn how to utilize these advancements so that when they enter their future careers, they can compete with those who may have had exposure to such devices. My students work hard and are at a point in their lives where they will soon go to high school; where they will either sink or swim. In order for them to swim, they need to be taught how.
My Project
With our new Lenovo tablets, my students will be able to access reading apps Snap&Read Universal, SpeakIt, and Scrible. I have a wide-range of students with different needs (ENL/Special Education/Honors) and these apps can help cater to each individual’s personal learning style. Additionally, my students can conduct research in class and use the tools Google Classroom offers to create presentations, construct essays, and learn how to become technologically savvy in this ever-changing world. These tablets will also allow for me to use technology to stimulate and motivate my students’ minds. Using BookWidgets, Go Animate, or StoryBird will allow for me to create interactive exercises so my students can create their own stories in an inventive manner and do so collaboratively.
