This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to time and resource limitations my students have very limited access to the computer lab. In addition, having confined classroom space negates the option of using a desktop computer during free time
My students are predominately from low income households.
Computer ownership is a luxury that they cannot afford. The entire school receives free or reduced price lunch and is located in a high violence area. The school demographic is approximately 50% Hispanic, 40% African American and 10% other.
My Project
The future of all students and citizens will undoubtedly involve the use of technology. I believe passionately that my students need to have the same access and understanding of computers and technology as students in more fortunate circumstances. All students deserve the chance to learn and have access to the resources that will be such a vital part of their future lives. I want to use the Chevron Challenge to provide my students with the introduction and access to technology. My students need to be able to use computers to enhance their learning. Furthermore I will be able to incorporate technology into my lesson plans. The resource I am requesting is an Apple Macbook Pro that will be used during small and large group instruction. Students will also be able to use the computer to help them enhance their science and math concepts. In addition the students will be able to research the internet for their science projects.
Technology is part of the present and the future.
All students deserve the opportunity to be prepared to use a computer and technology. I am committed to providing my students the opportunity to learn and use technology to prepare them for their future. This resource will have a significant impact on their lives and will make a big different in their learning. They will experience many ways to learn and challenge themselves instead of listening to the teacher and using pencil and paper
