Future STEM Leaders: Using Technology to Boost Learning in Kindergarten

My Students
I currently have 25 kindergartners in my classroom. I work at a low-income school on the south-east side of Chicago. At such a young age, my students are dealing with difficult situations. They have dealt with situations such as impoverished homes, gangs and violence and drugs. However, you would never know it because my students are determined to not be a product of their environments.
My students are very eager to learn and are enthusiastic when it comes to new content.
They are dedicated to their work and love to be challenged.
My Project
I work at one of the fifty STEM schools in the city of Chicago. When you think of a STEM school, you would assume that technology would be in abundance in the classrooms. However, your assumptions are so wrong. My classroom has two desktop computers for the students to use. This is not enough considering the many technological programs are students are required to use on a daily basis. At our school, our students are using programs such as Accelerated Reader, i-Ready, ST Math and are even coding programs. This requires more devices which my room just does not have.
Having this project funded will definitely boost my students' learning and prepare them for their academic careers.
Students will be able to practice on these programs that will boost their reading and math levels. These programs are also designed with Common Core State Standards in mind so that is another plus. We have to remember students learn those foundational skills in kindergarten. These Chromebooks will allow my students to have ample opportunities to practice on these computer-based programs and increase their knowledge.
