This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I feel that in order for the students to find the sciences practical and relevant to their lives, they need the opportunity to act and feel like scientists. Lab coats and safety glasses provide students the experience of being a scientist.
The student population at my school is 90% free and reduced lunch.
The students have shown great improvement on their district tests but need the lab activities in order to increase their science inquiry and develop a long lasting love for science. The students' families struggle to provide a $20.00 lab fee. All activities are therefore, subsidized by the teachers. In designing activities, we have to consider cost and safety issues first. The lack of lab coats have resulted in less activities that would help the students enjoy science.
My Project
I am requesting thirty unisex lab coats in various sizes and thirty safety goggles. The lab coats are polyester/cotton blend and machine washable. They will provide clothing protection for students as well as help set a laboratory atmosphere of high expectations in the class. The lab coats will be used daily during class activity time.
This donation will make a difference in my classroom by helping students connect to science and envision themselves as future scientists.
I want my students to know that not only do I set high expectations for them but also society. By donating to this project, you are helping my students realize their potential in the science field.
