Future Robotics Engineers Need Spheros and an Engineer Station

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have always been a firm believer of the quote "It takes a village to raise a child." And being a classroom teacher I am constantly trying to provide my learners with the most beneficial, equitable education experience as I set the groundwork of their future. These multicultural learners are relying on the aid of a school community to guide them to achieve their full potential and I have been blessed to have the privilege to be their conductor for this ride!

I have been so fortunate to be a second grade ENL teacher of students who consistently rise to the challenge!

My students consist of various nationalities including Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Israeli, Albania and more. These students began 2nd grade with very little understanding of English language and grade level academics. Currently, these little go-getters, are working hard to achieve all goals they set their mind to and I know that sky is the limit.

My Project

My students are very inquisitive learners. They are very interested in science and technology and what better way to nurture this curiosity with a dry erase group table and Sphero robots.

The goal of these Spheros and Dry Erase group table is to create a STEM station that will provide my learners with an experience to do robotics, coding, engineering, scientific inquiry as well as STEM science projects.

With these Sphero robots my students will be able to participate in coding, robotics and basic engineering. My students will also use the dry erase group table to take notes directly to the table and show what they are thinking as well as work together hands on to make these robots go.

My students will be able to use their imaginations as well as possibly guide them into becoming our future engineers, coders and computer science majors!

The goal of these Spheros and Dry Erase group table is to create a STEM station that will provide my learners with an experience to do robotics, coding, engineering, scientific inquiry as well as STEM science projects.

Since my students are language learners I find it beneficial to give them the opportunity to work in groups with opportunities for differentiation in all content areas and being that we are in such a technologically advanced society exposing children to engineering and computer sciences is necessary.
