My students need better quality instruments for learning to read, notate and perform music, specifically a xylophone. They need to create music and hear the beautiful sounds.
Imagine the possibility of students creating and performing beautiful music, using the resources made available in their school to find the inspiration to be the next Mozart or Beethoven. Who knows what genius could be sparked by having the right instruments in the classroom?
The majority of these students come from low-income homes.
Many of them will never have opportunities to see their dreams made possible except through the schools. Because of the financial limitations, our resources are also limited. Much of what is provided by the government is reserved for academic resources and supplies. These are our circumstances, but with the generosity of those who care about supporting the arts, our children can realize the vast possibilities for expressing oneself. The door can be opened for them to discover their true abilities.
My Project
My students need better quality instruments for learning to read, notate and perform music, specifically a xylophone. They need to create music and hear the beautiful sounds. This instruments are beautiful to look at as well as hear. So much of the time, music in our elementary schools is more of a playtime than a mode of expression and creation. With quality melodic instruments, children can experience the process of making and recreating real melodies, see and hear them played, learn to read the notes and compose their own melodies.
You can make a difference in the life of a talented musician who might otherwise not even realize the extent of their gift.
With these instruments, the students can create their own compositions, put together music groups and perform for their peers, educators and families. All of these possibilities will ultimately boost the self confidence of children who need every ounce of encouragement available to them!
