Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are currently in the sixth, seventh and eighth grade. I have the opportunity to teach them math and science-based skills that are deemed important in today's society. They are engaged in the content that is being taught in class and have a passion for learning. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I see that my students are faced with a plethora of challenges both inside and outside the classroom. So the minute they step into our room, I focus on their individual potential and growth.
My students are intelligent, goal-driven young adults whose experiences should not be hindered based on their socioeconomic status.
Instead, they should be creating meaningful experiences with resources that will allow them to succeed.
All of my students receive free or reduced-rate lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Often times, their status may not provide them with the materials needed to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
By optimizing the use of the proper resources this can greatly improve student learning. A lot of my resources allow students to learn how to be organized and how it can set them up for success. Learning materials in teaching can support student learning and increase student success all at the same time. Because the resources will be aligned with the classroom procedures, it will have the ability to support each and every student in my class. From the file folders, pocket charts to the turn in your work organizer will allow me to set procedures in place in my class and enhance student success. All of the materials are aligned to the learning goal where my students develop various pathways and procedures to enable them to have access to authentic learning experiences across the curriculum. My students will develop new knowledge as they practice with the learning resources. The tabletop paper center will allow me to effectively organize their work while sharing a classroom with another teacher. The see me privacy partitions will allow them to focus on their assessments all while receiving a good amount of privacy to focus on the task at hand. The rotating caddies will allow them to have the necessary materials at their desk so that they will not waste class time looking for anything and it will be easily accessible. The reusable write and wipe pockets will allow them to take notes and mark down any important information in a text or visual and the handouts can be used the following year. The giant timer will be used to make sure my students stay on a time limit during each learning task. Not only will the resources give them the opportunity to gain organizational skills, but they will be entirely grateful!
