This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 23 students attend a small, rural school in the San Joaquin Valley that serves a primarily Latino population. Over 90% of our students receive free lunch and the achievement gap is a reality.

My stupendous students are energetic, enthusiastic, polite, and curious!

They have wisdom and resilience that come from challenge and innocence that blooms from hope. I want so much for them to understand that they have the ability to be leaders and agents of change. Each child is a possibility!

My Project

I would like each of my students to have the opportunity to read and respond to quality informational text at their level. I believe that access to a news magazine via a subscription to Time for Kids will enable them to not only learn about what is going on in the world but also enable them read about kids who are making a difference in their communities.

Knowledge is power.

In order for my students to be agents of change and leaders in the community, they need to have opportunities to develop awareness of current events as well as read, reflect, articulate, and write in response to those events.
