How can we expect children to become the leaders in our country if we are not teaching about the world around them? My students need higher level reading material that will filter out the trashy stories of today and prepare them to be to be future leaders.
My students are very motivated and determined.
They are filled with amazing "out of the box" ideas. However, they live in a small community which often becomes very sheltered.
My school is very diverse, we have students from all over the world. We teach acceptance, tolerance and kindness every day. It is our hope that our students will take these lessons and go back out into the world to make the world a better place for everyone.
My Project
Parents and educators must protect children from the trashy and scary stories of the world in order to preserve their innocence as long as we are able. Magazines such as this one give students an opportunity to safely learn about the issues of the world while giving them a chance to converse with their peers about the issues in today's world.
Scholastic is well known for their weekly and monthly reading magazines that focus on current events. These publications are trusted by parents and educators.
I would like to use this publication to help teach reading as well as social studies. I would like to use the Scholastic Magazine to help teach non fiction reading to my highest guided reading groups. These students are reading above a 5th grade level and would be better suited to have a magazine designed for 6th grade students. What better way to prepare them to lead their country one day?
Students need to be aware of the world around them.
We need to raise kind and compassionate children that can respond to the call to lead our world tomorrow. Scholastic Magazine will help me teach my children how to read higher level non fiction text while teaching them about the world they live in.
