Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching eighteen, lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
I am requesting an assortment of fiction books for our preschool classroom. Our classroom library has a limited number of books and I would like to add books that I know will appeal to the children. I have selected books that capture a child's imagination and interest. The books I have chosen will keep the children turning pages. I believe that children will desire to become life long readers if they are exposed early to books that appeal to them. Young children love books and to be read to. Please help me in my endeavor to enrich their lives with good books. My goal is to provide an enriching environment where a love of learning and reading can be instilled in all of the children in my care.
Friedrich Froebel, the father of kindergarten, believed that young children should be involved in both making their own art and enjoying the art of others.
Engaging children in creative expression should be the objective of an early childhood education.
I would also like to incorporate a writing center into my classroom. I am requesting blank books in order for the children to write and illustrate their very own books. This activity takes several months to finish but at the end, they have personal books that they can be proud of. These books are cherished by both the parents and the students themselves. I absolutely love to see the joy and sense of accomplishment when they complete a piece of writing. Children love to write and draw about their lives and what they see in the world around them. I hope you consider funding us!
