Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are survivors. This is my second year at this school and that is the best word to use when describing them. They come hungry, frustrated, and angry; yet, they still give me everything they have!
Our school is ready to face the challenges the students come with and move forward.
That does not stop us, the teachers and students, from being believers in ourselves and others. The teachers at my school have many opportunities to go to schools with a much easier demographic, but they strive to become better keeps us all there.
The students are bussed from the one of the largest Section 8 housing unit in our town. It takes four buses to bring the students to school; we are not a neighborhood school. The students get on the bus at 6:45 am and are dropped off by 7:30 am to go eat breakfast. All students get free lunch and breakfast because of our demographics. I strive to give as many students as possible a hands-on learning experience that includes projects and field trips. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!
My Project
WeDo Lego Set will allow the students to explore what it is like to work as an architect, engineer, science, math, and art. Most of our families work in a freezer or in the fields. This will expand the students vision of what they want to achieve as they continue their education. The WeDo Lego Set connects directly to 21st Century Skills and connects directly to STEAM.
By donating to our class project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
The goal with WeDo is to challenge their critical thinking skills through trial and error. The Lego set also connects to an iPad, which our class has. This will give them an opportunity to work with many moving pieces at once.
